Day 1

Subject: [firstname]: Thanks for signing up!

Dear [firstname],

Thanks for signing up to this short e-course on leadership. Over the coming days I'm going to be sending you a LOT of information; be sure to check your inbox every day and to mark my messages as “important”. It's also a good idea to set some time aside each day to read my messages and act on the information they contain. Specifically, we're going to talk about:

Whether you have the character traits that make a good leader.
The difference between strategy and tactics. Confused? You won't be after reading the information I'll be sending you.
We'll delve into the art of delegating.
I'll give you some reasons people stay motivated.
And a whole lot more besides!

Of course, if you want to get a head start on all this, I've put together a no-holes-barred manual that explains everything in detail. You can find out all about it here: [link to sales page].

Something I get asked a lot is: Are good leaders born or made?

That's a difficult question to answer. While it's true there are certain character traits that make a good leader (and we'll talk about some of them tomorrow) leadership is also a skill and skills can be learned. Most of these skills are so-called “soft skills” that deal with the way good leaders interact with other people. These include the ability to communicate well, to motivate others, handle responsibilities, know what to delegate (and when to do it), listen to feedback, and take an open minded approach to solving problems.

All this comes naturally to some people, and they're happy to take the pressure and responsibility. Other people find this uncomfortable and they're happy to “pass the buck” to somebody else. It all comes down to whether you're happy to make decisions and stand by the results.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

PS. Have you got what it takes to be a good leader? I'll cover some of the most common character traits tomorrow. Be sure to check your inbox then.
